Description: The Leonberger is a fairly large, muscular yet graceful dog. Also called “the gentle lion dog.” The mane on the Leonberger is fully matured around 3 years of age. It’s very intelligent and highly trainable and they absolutely adore children. They also have webbed feet, which makes them excellent swimmers.

Height: Males, 28.5 - 31.5 inches tall, females, 25.5 – 29.5 inches tall
Weight:
Males, 130-170 pounds, females 100-130 pounds.

Colors: Black mask with golden to red brown coat.
Coat:
Heavy, medium length, with under coat.

Temperament: Calm, gentle and lively.
With Children:
Good, very friendly toward children
With Pets:
Good, usually does well with other pets (dogs, cats, etc.)
Special Skills:
Very clever and loyal dog, plus they have webbed feet.

Care and Exercise: Moderate exercise with little brushing, trimming of excessive hair on feet, ear cleaning and nail trimming.

Came from the town of Leonberg in southern Germany. The breed was developed from St. Bernard’s, Pyrenees and Landseers.
