Description: The Siberian Husky has a sweet nature and is a breed that is suited for the whole family, but does not make a good guard dog. Gentle in character with a determined look the Siberian Husky is a very people oriented dog. Siberian Husky males have a tendency to roam and need to be kept in a fenced in area. If the Siberian Husky gets out it may be impossible to catch him on foot. A member of the Spitz family, the Siberian Husky is strong and has the ability to haul heavy loads over long distances and rough terrain. The Siberian Husky will happily pull a young child in a wagon or sled.

Care and Training: Brush the Siberian Husky coat twice a week, paying special attention during shedding. Bathe the Siberian Husky only when necessary. Clip nails regularly. Needs a lot of exercise and they should not be exercised hard in warm weather. Daily walks and a large fenced yard will help keep the Siberian Husky in shape and prevent boredom and destructive behavior. Makes a great cross-country skiing partner.

History: The Siberian Husky was developed by the Chukchi tribe of northeastern Asia about 3,000 years ago. Used to pull sleds and herd reindeer for this nomadic tribe, it wasn't until the early 1900s when the Siberian Husky was introduced into Alaska where they became renowned for sled racing and search and rescue work.
